Early Morning Fire Tears Through Marlborough Home

A two alarm fire tore through a single family home at 33 Bowstring Way in the early hours of Monday morning.

The fire started before 6:30 a.m., causing extensive damage in the basement area with damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $75,000 to $100,000, said Deputy Fire Chief Ron Ayotte.

The fire department received a 911 call from the resident of the home stating that the basement was full of smoke.

When Engine 3 — the first truck — arrived, they reported that there was heavy smoke showing and requested the box be struck causing Engine 2 to respond to the fire as the rapid intervention team and Car 1 responded. Off duty personnel were recalled on the box to staff the Marlborough Fire Department’s reserve engines. In total, Engine 3, Engine 1, Tower 1, Rescue 1 and Car 2 were dispatched.

A second alarm was struck, bringing in mutual aid from Sudbury, Southborough and Northborough to cover Marlborough’s stations as well as responding directly to the fire, said Ayotte. The fire was placed under control, and extensive overhauling operations began to search the area and contents for any fire extension.

The family was transported to Marlborough Hospital by Patriot Ambulance as a precaution; there were no reported firefighter injuries. The Marlborough Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshal are conducting the investigation, the damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $75,000 to $100,000.
