Dunkin Employee Accused of Stealing $5,000

Police have arrested a Dunkin Donut employee after he allegedly told police he had been robbed while making a deposit of over $5,000 for the business.

"It was reported by the victim that ... he was stopped by two males on a motorcycle, one of which pointed a handgun at him and then stole the $5,000+ cash deposit he was carrying," said Marlborough Police Lt. David A. Giorgi in a press release of the incident which occured Sunday.

Michael Sorrentino, 28, of 34 Central Street Apt. 5 allegedly told police he had been robbed on Mount Royal Avenue. Sorrentino described the suspects, including their appearance, the motorcycle as well as the possibility that another vehicle may be involved, said Lt. Giorgi. Officers checked the surrounding area and a detective responded as well, according to the police statement.

On Monday, Sorrentino contradicted his original report and during an interview,he eventually admitted that he had fabricated the incident and that he had stolen the money himself over the course of a few months, said Lt. Giorgi.

Sorrentino was arrested and charged with filing a false police report and larceny over $250 by a single scheme.
