Dueling BB Guns Result in Attempted Robbery Arrest

An alleged attempted robbery was fended off with a BB gun Wednesday in Marlborough.

A man attempting to rob a Marlborough convenience store with a BB gun Wednesday was foiled, police say, when the clerk brandished their own BB gun and the man fled.

“The clerk grabbed a BB gun from inside a drawer and pointed it at the suspect who supsequently ran out of the store," said Marlborough Police Detective Scott Deciero of an attempted robbery at Juma Grocery Store on Mechanic Street.

When police arrived at the store following a 911 call with a screaming woman on the other end they were informed by a witness that a masked man had fled the store while holding a hand gun, said Deciero.

When police spoke with the clerk, they informed officers that the man had come into the store, brandished the handgun and then said “Give me everything.” That is when, according to police, the clerk grabbed their own BB gun and pointed it at the man who ran out of the store.

A witness told police they saw the man drop something as he got into the vehicle, with the item turning out to be a magazine to a BB gun, said Deciero. The witness gave a license plate for the vehicle and police put out a be on the look out for the SUV.

While police searched the area they found a number of articles of clothing believed to have been thrown out of the vehicle as the suspects fled, said Deciero.

Hudson police stopped the vehicle on Ontario Drive in Hudson, arresting both occupants of the SUV, according to police.

Police arrested Jeremy Alvah Bearse, 21, of 19 McEnelly Street Apt. 7 and Antoinette M. Balicki, 26, of 234 W. Acton Road in Stow on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, conspiracy and firearm-armed assault to rob.
