BREAKING: Marlborough Resident Killed in Overnight Car Crash

A Marlborough resident was killed in an overnight crash on 290 eastbound Thursday morning.  

The body of James S. "Scott" Ricciuti, 48, was discovered in the woods prior to Exit 24 shortly before 2 a.m., when a state trooper's cruiser became disabled after hitting debris related the crash.

Trooper Mathew Moran while investigating the situation discovered a gray 2006 Toyota Matrix in a wooded median with a lone male occupant who had sustained fatal injuries. 

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim’s vehicle veered out of the travel lane and struck the beginning of a segment of guardrail, causing the end of the guardrail to impact the vehicle," said state police in a statement.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police along with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Worcester County State Police Detective Unit. Troopers were also assisted on-scene by the Boylston Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Highway Department.

The two left lanes of Route 290 eastbound were closed until 4:48 a.m. to accommodate the crash investigation and cleanup, said police.

Ricciuti had survived the recent death of his mother this past January.
