Best Buy Fire Causes $200,000 Damage

Heavy smoke and a fire was reported at Best Buy near Solomon Pond Mall.

The following press release was submitted by the Marlborough Fire Department:

The responded to a fire alarm activation at the Best Buy Store located at 769 Donald Lynch Blvd. at 5:55 a.m. Upon arrival, the crew of Engine 2 found a smoke condition inside of the structure and requested that the balance of the first alarm assignment be dispatched.

The fire was in a kiosk area at the rear of the store near the automotive electronics installation bays. The fire was not large enough to trigger the building’s fire sprinkler system. Engine 2’s crew quickly extinguished the blaze, but due to the heavy smoke conditions inside of the building crews remained on scene to vent the smoke. The smoke was hard to vent due to the high ceilings and problems the building’s ventilation system.

The Marlborough Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshal investigated and determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.

While the fire damage to the structure was relatively minor, the smoke caused most of the damages. Preliminary estimates to the structure and merchandise were determined to be in excess of $200,000.
