Arrest Made in Stabbing of Assabet Graduate

Corey Thompson died in February.

Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of an Assabet Graduate who was found dead under the I-93 overpass in the South End of Boston last month.

Christopher W. Powell, 39, of Everett, has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Corey Thompson, who most recently lived in Roxbury, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

According to his obituary, Thompson is originally from Framingham and graduated in 1986 from Assabet Assabet Valley Regional Vocational High School.

State police have been investigating Thompson's death since his body was found under an Interstate 93 overpass near Albany and Traveler Streets on February 25.  An autopsy revealed that the 44-year-old year old man, a popular hair stylist on Newbury Street, had been stabbed.

Detectives said that evidence shows that Powell stabbed Thompson during a physical altercation at the scene, according to DA spokesperson Jake Wark. Additionally, Powell allegedly admitted to the stabbing, Wark said.

Powell will appear in Boston Municipal Court on Wednesday.

Not the whole story. According to the Globe, video at the scene shows Powell was being pummeled by the victim before the stabbing. Sounds like a pretty good case for self defense.
