UPDATED: Driver Fled Vehicle in Concord Rd. Accident Saturday Morning

The driver of a vehicle that struck a telephone pole on the 800 block of Concord Rd. Saturday morning fled his car and was later found by police.

A police detail and National Grid crews blocked a portion of Concord Rd. between Lamarre and Demers Drives Saturday morning after a passenger vehicle struck a street pole in the early hours and the driver fled the scene. 

The call log related that "Engine 3 and Rescue 1 were dispatched to the vicinity of 920 Concord Road for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries, a car into a utility pole," said Dep. Chief Ron Ayotte in the . "On arrival, the driver had fled but was found by police at a residence up the road. The patient was transported to Marlborough Hospital for injuries received in the accident, the pole had snapped and needed replacement."

did not have information concerning the accident on Saturday, but said a detail was on the scene to control traffic. Saturday's revealed that there was an accident shortly after 5 a.m. There is no evidence that police arrested the driver for any wrongdoing.

An eyewitness to the aftermath of the accident said he saw a severely damaged vehicle being pulled out of a wooded area in this residential neighborhood. 

"I saw a tow truck pulling a tan sedan out of the trees where the telephone pole would be," said Stephen Gray, a Concord Rd. resident. "The front end was all messed up. There was only one police officer on the scene and no emergency crews."

National Grid replaced the damaged pole with a new one, blocking the path of traffic until mid afternoon.
