1,161 in Marlborough Still Without Power

The mammoth electric company National Grid is still dealing with widespread outages, while promising restored service by Thursday evening.

Several days after the Oct. 29 snowstorm that left more than 30,000 Marlborough area residents in the dark, the company's website is reporting as of early Wednesday afternoon there are still 1,161 without power.

Tuesday afternoon National Grid said most residents could expect to have their power back as of Thursday night at the latest.

“We know this is a hardship for our customers and we’re grateful for their patience as we work to restore their power. We’re here, we’re on it and we will not stop until everyone has their electricity back,” said Marcy Reed, president of National Grid Massachusetts. “This does not mean that everyone currently without power will have to wait until Thursday. We are restoring service to customers every hour around the clock and most customers will have their power restored before then."

The company's website says that 18,200 customers have been serviced thus far.

Reed said there may be a handful of residents that may still be in the dark after Thursday, however.

"The exceptions will be customers located in isolated pockets that present special circumstances or those who need to make repairs to their homes before we can restore service,” she said.

As of Wednesday,  were back in session and the has announced that they will be from the storm over the coming month.

Marlborough residents had also been complaining about an interruption in their Comcast cable service in recent days.

"At this time it appears the vast majority of problems are related to commercial power outages," said Marc Goodman, a spokesperson for the company. "For most people, service should be restored as power comes back on in their homes. As service comes on, however, we are seeing cases where more extensive damage (to lines and electrical hardware) is causing continued problems. We are going to work until service restored to all customers, and we are working closely with state and local personnel, as well as the power companies."

Reed urged the public to avoid any downed wires. This is especially important now that crews are energizing power lines on local streets and in neighborhoods.

"It is critically important to stay away from any downed wires and call National Grid immediately at 800-465-1212 to report downed lines so crews can respond immediately."
