OPINION: Large Portions at Chez Siam

For a relaxed atmoshpere and a variety of Thai dishes, visit Chez Siam.

The menu at reflects the cuisine of most Thai restaurants, offering a range of curry and pad Thai dishes, along with a generous variety of tofu dishes.

The restaurant is small with limited seating that might be tight for large groups. Two different menus are offered for lunch (11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.) and dinner (5 - 10 p.m.). For the price and quality of food served at the restaurant, Chez Siam seems to walk the middle of the road regarding Thai cuisine. Although some might consider the food overpriced, the large portions can be eaten for multiple meals.

First sample the restaurant's cuisine at lunch with cheaper prices before committing to dinner at Chez Siam.

To start, try the tasty vegetable rolls (Thai style spring rolls) that are a reminder that vegetable does not always equal healthy (expect grease to run down your chin).

Next sample the classic Pad Thai dish, which supplied ample tender chicken mixed into the pan fried rice noodles with a sweet aftertaste. The one complaint with this dish is only two shrimp were found buried among the noodles and sprouts. If wishing to mix up this classic dish, try the Basil or Fisherman's Pad Thai (comes with squid and scallops in addition to the shrimp).

The following dish tasted as uninspired as the name implied, "Mixed Vegetables in Brown Sauce." Sauteed vegetables mixed with fried tofu swam in an unidentifiable, watery brown sauce with a hint of ginger. Of the available vegetarian dishes, do not choose this one. Rather, sample the vegetable curry or vegetable gra prao, which combines vegetables and tofu sauteed with basil leaves in a spicy sauce.
