4. Local residents can receive help at tax time by IRS-certified volunteers at three locations in Marlborough, said a recent release from the mayor's office. In addition to two locations run by AARP that serve seniors, there is now a location on West Main Street which serves taxpayers less than 60 years of age. It will be important for many workers to file this year so they can collect the Earned Income Credit, for which they may qualify for the first time because their income declined or they became unemployed. Tax refunds through the EIC and Child Tax Credit can help low—and moderate—income families cover day-to-day expenses such as utilities, rent, and child care. Families with three or more children also get an extra boost with a larger EIC this year. Appointments are necessary for the free tax preparation. Seniors can schedule with AARP preparers for Saturday morning appointments at the by calling 508-624-6900, and Thursday morning appointments may be made for the at 508-624-6900. Those under 60 years old may make Saturday morning appointments at St. Mary’s Credit Union on West Main St. by calling the City’s Human Services office at 508-460-3758.
