Obituary: Herbert Gould, 69, Leader in Marlborough Youth Football

Among his interests, Mr. Gould enjoyed candlepin bowling, playing poker with his family, and cribbage.

Herbert L. “Herb” Gould, 69, of Marlborough died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday Jan. 9, 2014 after a 15 month courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Kathleen E.  (Feeley) Gould for the past 47 years. He was born in Hudson, the son of the late Leslie and Mabel (Bousquet) Gould and was raised in Berlin, until moving to Marlborough in 1966. Herb was a 1962 graduate of Hudson High School and Captain of the Football team, a team that was undefeated and went on to win the state championship. He worked for the family business as a printer at Unique Press in Waltham for 32 years until its closing in 2000. He then worked in the Fulfillment and Copy Department of Bose Corporation in Framingham. He was very involved with Marlboro Youth Football, serving on its Board of Directors, and running the concessions for many years raising tens of thousands of dollars for the organization. He spearheaded a program within the city to help all children be able to play football regardless of their ability to pay for fees and equipment.
