Elder First on November's Ballot
MARLBOROUGH- Last week, Marlborough City Councilor Matt Elder dropped off close to 200 certified signatures to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office, officially becoming the first candidate for State Representative on the ballot in the 4th Middlesex District.
“As the owner of two small businesses, and a husband with a young family, I see residents responding to my message of smaller, smarter government because they know I have been in their shoes, struggling to make ends meet.”
Continued Elder “Voters across the district have seen their property values going down while their taxes go up. That is a direct result of the state spending too much money.”

“My opponent has voted to increase taxes close to $1.5 billion in annual, reoccurring taxes. “If you believe the state is $9 billion better than it was 6 years ago, I’m not your candidate. If you believe we can do better, and deserve better, than I’m your guy.” Elder stated.
Recently, Elder’s opponent, Danielle Gregoire (D-Marlborough), voted to not allow discussing increasing local aid or Chapter 70 funds during the state budget process. Elder said he could not understand why she would vote to not allow even discussing bringing more money back to her district.

Unlike his opponent, who was the second least working state Representative in Central Massachusetts last year according to per diem compensation, Elder has pledged he will not take a per diem, which is a Beacon Hill perk given to State Representatives to drive to and from the State House.
“My opponent voted to raise our gas tax, all while the tax payers are paying for her to drive to work,” Elder said. “People are fed up with these Beacon Hill double standards.”
Matt Elder is currently serving his third term on the Marlborough City Council. He is the owner of i9 Sports, a local youth sports league that offers athletic activities for kids starting at 3 years old. In addition, he is the owner of Ultimate Mobile Gaming, a video game trailer that brings an exciting video gaming experience to birthday parties, homes, events and festivals. Councilor Elder is happily married to his wife Melinda, and the father to two young boys, Lucas, age 4, and Connor, 9 months.
