Golf Tournament Raises $43,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs

The 20th R.F. Wood Kids Classic exceeded its $40,000 goal.

On Monday, July 16th, more than 175 golfers and volunteers joined together to remember the late Bob “R.F.” Wood and raise much needed funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest at the 20th Annual R.F. Wood Kids Classic Golf Tournament at Marlborough Country Club presented by DCU for Kids.

“I’d like to thank our Presenting Sponsor, DCU for Kids, our Dinner Sponsor, Framingham Co-operative Bank., our Registration Sponsor, Akibia, Inc., our Kids Classic Sponsors, Fitts Insurance Agency and NMTW Community Credit Union, all of our other donors, golfers and the Wood family for their outstanding support this year,” said Fran Hurley, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest. “In the milestone 20th year of this tournament, we were able to exceed our goal, raising $43,000! We are look forward to continuing this tournament for many years to come.”

Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the course at Marlborough Country Club with delicious box lunches courtesy of Panera Bread, Marlborough and beverages courtesy of Ninety Nine Restaurants, Cumberland Farms and Bacons Wine and Spirits. Golfers were also able to participate in raffles and many betting holes and contests, including a Hole in One promotion courtesy of Marlboro Nissan and a putting contest. Dinner following the tournament was sponsored by Framingham Co-operative Bank and the Annual R.F. Wood Award was presented to Mr. Don Garcia of Hudson. As a longstanding supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest, Mr. Garcia, President of Boyd Coatings Research Co. represents the qualities that “R.F.” Wood valued.
