Texts That Make You Tingle...

We are used to scary movies. The "Texan chainsaw" dripping with blood or some weird wet woman getting out of the TV set to kill us. But what about books? Do books make our hearts and ears tingle?

We are used to scary movies. The "Texas chainsaw" dripping with blood or some weird wet woman getting out of the TV set to kill us. But what about books? Do books—be it short novels, big volumes or just novels—make our hearts and ears tingle? Do they arouse the same sentiment? Any Bible passages perhaps?

I've been going to church all my life. Yet every time I read this week's passage from the prophet Jeremiah, I get these butterflies in my stomach: "The times are surely coming..." he proclaims. Jeremiah was not a happy man or an enthusiastic prophet - but he writes with a mixture of hope and woe "The time are surely coming..." Surely... I barely recall the rest of the passage—he had me at "Surely."

Jeremiah writes about a time when God's love and justice will be inscribed in our hearts. When we read about the tragedy in France or on our next door, its hard to believe that one day, sin and hate will exist no more. But Jeremiah is adamant "The times are SURELY coming" he insists. It makes my heart and my ears tingle.
