Cat Rescue Changes Name to Improve CaRMaH!

Metrowest Animal Awareness Society is shedding it's name for a new one: CaRMaH (Cat Rescue of Marlborough and Hudson).

Metrowest Animal Awareness Society has changed in its 10 years of existence. It was first started with the goal of reducing animal suffering and homelessness throughout the area, and started by providing trap-neuter-return services for feral cats, and adopting out a few cats and dogs each year. About six years ago, when I joined the organization, we expanded our adoptions and TNR programs, and focused solely on cats.

We're proud of what we have done in the community. As volunteers, we rescue, foster, adopt out over 300 friendly cats, and trap-neuter-return 50-70 feral cats.

Yet our name didn't match our purpose. We would get calls from as far away from Newton looking for help—for Newton sometimes considers itself part of Metrowest.  And, an injured hawk, a turtle in the road, a baby bird found outside its nest would also merit calls, since isn't animal in our name?

So, after much deliberation, we settled on a new name: CaRMaH, the Cat Rescue of Marlborough and Hudson. There it is. We rescue cats in our towns, and the surrounding area. We also feel the name has good karma, which we share with our citizen rescuers, volunteers, veterinary partners and adopters.

Come celebrate our new name at the Ribbon Cutting ceremony, this Saturday the 14th, 11 am at Petco in Hudson. We'll have cake, cats and kittens to meet, and T shirts.

Consider bringing supplies for kitten season: evaporated milk, chicken baby food, gelatin—ingredients for kitten glop!

Adopt a Cat. It's good for your CaRMaH.
