Illegal Immigration - An Open Letter to President Obama

Dear President Obama,

Border Patrol estimates that more than 90,000 unaccompanied children from Central America will make the dangerous trek to enter the United States illegally this year. This could end up being a crisis of epic proportion, and it's all due to our nation's failure to enforce federal immigration laws, while providing protections for those already here illegally.

Two years ago, the Obama administration issued a set of memos outlining priorities for immigration enforcement, including deferred action and work permits for illegal aliens who came to the country as children. Those actions were followed up this spring with reports that the administration was further evaluating enforcement priorities that would ultimately protect nearly all illegal aliens living in the U.S. from removal.

Those actions are being reported in countries south of our border, and thousands of children have decided now is the time to come to the U.S. illegally. Instead of discussing ways to end these incentives and enforce existing laws, many in Congress want to pass "comprehensive immigration reform" that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and double legal immigration.

Our country continues to fight its way out of a terrible jobs recession with 18 million Americans looking for full-time work. Further, working households have seen their wages decline in recent years. Amnesty and increased immigration will only make matters worse by adding more competition to the job market and depressing wages. It is time to help America's unemployed and end the crisis on the border by choosing enforcement over amnesty and immigration increases.

The following are several quotes from Obama- “The Architect of Destruction” by Maureen Scott, with which I wholeheartedly agree:

“Obama appears to be a tormented man who is filled with resentment, anger, and disdain for anyone of an opinion or view other than his. He acts in the most hateful, spiteful, malevolent, vindictive ways in order to manipulate and maintain power and control over others…

It is not the color of his skin that is a problem – for anyone in America. Rather it is the blackness that fills his soul and the hollowness in his heart where there should be abiding pride and love for this country….

Obama has never given a speech that is filled with calm, reassuring, complimentary, heartfelt statements about all the people in the U.S. Or one that inspires us to be better, grateful, and proud that, in a short time, our country became a leader, and a protector of so many. Quite the contrary, his speeches always degenerate into mocking, ridiculing tirades as he faults our achievements, along with any of his critics, all for the sake of a laugh, or to bolster his ego. He uses his Office to threaten and create fear while demeaning and degrading anyone who opposes his policies and actions. Unlike a secure leader, who has noble self-esteem and not false confidence, Obama displays a cocky, haughty attitude and a dread of being critiqued.

Mostly, his time seems to be spent causing dissention, unrest, and anxiety among the people rather than uniting us (even though he was presented to us as the "Great Uniter"). He creates chaos for the sake of keeping citizens separated, envious, aggrieved and ready to argue. Under his leadership Americans have been kept on edge, rather than in a state of comfort and security. He incites people to be aggressive toward, disrespectful of, and retaliate against those of differing backgrounds and views. Through such behavior, Obama has lowered the standards for self-control and mature restraint to the level of rowdy, street-fighting gangs. When, instead, he should be raising the bar for people to strive toward becoming more considerate, tolerant, self-disciplined, self-sustaining, and self-assured.”

Please take to heart the following words from one of our greatest presidents, President Calvin Coolidge, spoken when he was President of the Massachusetts State Senate and later on when he was President of the United States:

"While our country numbers among its best citizens many of those of foreign birth, yet those who now enter in violation of our laws by that very act thereby place themselves in a class of undesirables.... We ought to have no prejudice against an alien because he is an alien. The standard which we apply to our inhabitants is that of manhood, not place of birth. Restrictive immigration is to a large degree for economic purposes. It is applied in order that we may not have a larger annual increment of good people within our borders than we can weave into our economic fabric in such a way as to supply their needs without undue injury to ourselves."

"We need a broader, firmer, deeper faith in the people; A faith that men desire to do right, that the Commonwealth is founded upon a righteousness which will endure, a reconstructed faith that the final approval of the people is given not to demagogues, slavishly pandering to their selfishness, merchandising with the clamor of the hour, but to statesmen, ministering to their welfare, representing their deep, silent, abiding convictions."

"Our country has one cardinal principle to maintain in its foreign policy. It is an American principle. It must be an American policy. We attend to our own affairs, conserve our own strength, and protect the interests of our own citizens; but we recognize thoroughly our obligation to help others, reserving to the decision of our own Judgment the time, the place, and the method. We realize the common bond of humanity. We know the inescapable law of service."

Sincerely,

J. Bruce Gabriel
