Coolidge on Foreign Policy

"Our country has one cardinal principle to maintain in its foreign policy. It is an American principle. It must be an American policy. We attend to our own affairs, conserve our own strength, and protect the interests of our own citizens; but we recognize thoroughly our obligation to help others, reserving to the decision of our own Judgment the time, the place, and the method. We realize the common bond of humanity. We know the inescapable law of service."- From President Coolidge's First Annual Message of December 6, 1923.

Recently, a for more than a quarter mile to his death under an intoxicated illegal immigrant's vehicle. The illegal immigrant also left the scene of the accident.

It seems to me that Governor Patrick would do very well to read President Coolidge's State of the Union addresses. They would give Patrick an idea of what the responsibilities of elected officials are in protecting the rights and interests of American citizens.

As an example, in his first annual message noted above, Coolidge states: "Our country has one cardinal principle to maintain in its foreign policy. It is an American principle. It must be an American policy. We attend to our own affairs, conserve our own strength, and protect the interests of our own citizens."

Clearly, by choosing not to implement the "Secure Communities" program, Governor Patrick is not protecting the rights of Massachusetts citizens. Instead Patrick has chosen to ally himself with foreign scofflaws who broke their first law by entering our country illegally. By not implementing Secure Communities and enforcing immigration laws, Gov. Patrick is allowing those scofflaws to remain at large to inflict financial and bodily injury on American citizens.

I for one will be glad when Gov. Patrick's term of office is over because he has not remained faithful to the Constitution. Selective enforcement of the laws is a major step toward tyranny.
