Local Soccer Players Can Rev up with a Free New England Revolution Academy Clinic

The experts at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and the New England Revolution Academy hosted a free soccer clinic on May 31st at ForeKicks in Marlboro.

The warm winter temperatures have filled soccer players with anticipation of an early start to the soccer season. To get local youth soccer players ready, the experts at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and the New England Revolution Academy hosted a free soccer clinic on May 31st at ForeKicks in Marlboro from 6-8 pm for all soccer players ages 7- 14. This free clinic taught players, coaches, and parents about important stretching techniques, strength and agility exercises, and treatment and prevention of overuse injuries and nutrition.

Participants were led by New England Revolution Academy coaches through various skill stations that challenged a player’s agility, ball control, and shooting. Spaulding Physical Therapists ran players through dynamic stretching techniques, agility drills, strengthening and flexibility exercises. “The drills used with attendees are based on important stretching techniques to help keep young athletes on the field, throughout the season.  “Young athletes who experience growth spurts during the sports season can benefit from taking a few extra minutes after practice to perform the stretches learned here today,” said Jennifer Green, PT, Spaulding Outpatient Center Framingham.

“Spaulding is proud to offer this clinic free to area youth with our partners at the Revolution Academy. Our goal is to make sure that players prevent injuries, but we also want parents and coaches to know the importance of a diet designed for athletes. When an athlete consumes the right foods, athletes discover their performance and recovery is directly affected helping establish healthy eating habits,” said Alice Richer, RD, Spaulding Rehabilitation Network.

“It’s wonderful to work with great partners like Spaulding and give players an opportunity to be exposed to the types of skills we work on at our Revolution Academy Clinics. It’s always gratifying to see players sharpen their skills and enjoy the game more, “said Deven Apajee, Revolution Academy Director.
