Anonymous Donor Gives $20,000 to Marlborough Senior Programs

The city accepted the surprise gift on Monday.

An extraordinary, anonymous cash gift to the city, to help provide services for the elderly, came along with a simple typed note.

"Please accept the enclosed $20,000.00 check for the Senior Center to be used as you see fit for the benefit of the organization. The work and services that you and the Senior Center do for the community and the seniors is appreciated," wrote the donor, who directed the note to the senior center, and signed the document as "a friend."

"I hope and trust that all goes well with the construction and development of the new location and building."

The donation was accepted Monday by the City Council. It will be used to enhance the programs and services of the Senior Center, according to the city.

"Though 'tis the season for generosity and goodwill towards men and women, I am amazed at this anonymous display of kindness from someone who obviously cares very deeply for our senior community," wrote Mayor Arthur Vigeant, in a note to the Council President, Patricia Pope.
