Putting Work on Hold to Help the Library

I volunteered today at the Marlborough Library pulling books from the shelves to be put on hold for patrons in Marlborough or be shipped to other libraries for their readers.
This is a task Marlborough Library staff must complete every day. During my time working through the stacks, I must say I found it refreshing to have a very specific task to complete in the near-silence of the library. Without the opportunity to multi-task or attend to other distractions, a calm accompanied the task.
I will stop short of saying my time pushing a cart through the stacks gathering audiobooks, dvds and novels was meditative but it certainly was a nice change of pace. So if the urge to give of your own time strikes you I would highly recommend putting things on hold for a while and working your way through the stacks.
