Marlborough City Elections: Candidate Finances

The campaign finance reports have been filed by candidates in Marlborough. Mayor Arthur Vigeant, who is running unopposed, raised about seven times more than City Council candidates in contested races.

Marlborough voters will choose among three contested races on Tuesday, depending  on the neighborhood. The ballot features several unopposed candidates, as well.
 
Marlborough Patch reviewed the campaign finance reports filed by the candidates in contested races, as well as that of Mayor Arthur Vigeant, who is running unopposed this year. The information follows.

Ward 2 City Council

This is a contested race. Neither of the candidates, Paul Ferro and Robert Page, are incumbents. In his filing, Ferro reported receiving $4,568 in contributions through Oct. 18. He spent $1,991.72. His campaign contributions came from 28 individuals, with several family members contributing $500 each. Eight of his contributors were from Marlborough. Page reported receipts of $1,791.08 through Oct. 18. He spent $1,116.12. His contributions came from four people, including $500 from the owner of Val's mobile home park.

Ward 5 City Council

This also is an open seat. Candidates are John Irish and Carlos Valadares. In his filing, Irish reported $100 in receipts through Oct. 18. He spent $738.98. He received one contribution of $100 from a resident on Hudson Street. His expenses went to signs and postcards. Valadares reported receipts of $3,025 through Oct. 18. He spent $3,156.25. His contributions came from 21 individuals, including from residents of Framingham, Marlborough and Somerville. His expenses included printing costs and T-shirts.

Marlborough School Committee

Four candidates are running for three available at-large seats. Michelle Bodin-Hettinger is the current committee vice-chair. Mark Hediger also is an incumbent. The other candidates are Earl Geary and Denise Ryan.
In her financial report, Bodin-Hettinger reported an ending balance in January 2013 of $600.26 from her last campaign. She did not report campaign contributions this year. She spent $29.98.
Hediger reported no campaign receipts or expenditures this year.
Geary reported $300 in campaign contributions through Oct. 18, from two contributors, including himself. He spent $190, on lawn signs.
Ryan reported contributions of $360 through Oct. 18, and spent $357.93. She reported contributions from three people, including herself. Her expenses went to signs.

Mayor Arthur Vigeant

Vigeant is running unopposed this year. He raised a significant amount through Oct. 18, compared to City Council candidates. Vigeant's campaign reported an ending balance of $10,411.35 as of Jan. 1 from his last election, and receipts of $30,340.00 through Oct. 18. He spent $11,675.06 through Oct. 18. His campaign had an ending balance of $29,076.29.
