5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 14

From the school calendar to city spending; we have the news you need today.

1. City Councilors recently voiced their opinion to stay in the loop on how money is spent in departments. This is one area the council has power over and it increases transparency by having public discussions of the budget, said councilors.

2. The School Committee began discussions of the school calendar for next year. Among the topics addressed were the spacing out of half days for teacher development.

3. We have a new photo contest just in time for St. Patrick's Day. We are looking for photos of your St. Patrick's Day/Irish Pride. You can enter here.
