5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 22

You might see some furry friends at the office today. And tomorrow, you'll probably see more troopers on state roads.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. It's Take Your Dog to Work day! Do you know of any Marlborough companies that are participating? Will you be bringing your pup to work with you? As Patch editors work from home, every day is Take Your Dog to Work Day. But it's a neat concept for those who work in offices (and aren't allergic to dogs!)

2. The Massachusetts State Police are preparing to conduct sobriety checkpoints on public roadways in Middlesex County this weekend. Checkpoints will be in place late evening Saturday into the early morning hours of Sunday, June 24. Motorists can expect to be randomly stopped at checkpoints on state roadways during these hours and given sobriety tests by state troopers.

3. Nominations are trickling in for the Readers' Choice categories we've selected for Marlborough. From now until July 9, we need your help compiling a list of "best" places to put to a vote. Let's start with best burger.

4. Registrations are being accepted for the second annual Youth Football Camp sponsored by the Framingham State University football program. The camp will be held July 23-26, 5 to 7:30 p.m. (rain or shine) at FSU's Maple Street Field. The non-contact camp is open to players ages 8-15. Campers will work with college coaches and players to improve their skills through a variety of drills. The cost is $60. If interested, email arosenbaum@framingham.edu.

5. Olivia's Ride will be held tomorrow, June 23, in memory of the late Olivia McGowan, who died from Fryns Syndrome in August 2011. This will be a motorcycle ride fundraiser, led by the Marlborough Eagle Riders. All proceeds will be donated to the NIC Unit at Children's Hospital in Boston. Registration is $20.
