5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 25

1. , a local nonprofit, is urgently looking to collect many household items to benefit those displaced by the fire that destroyed the Lake Williams Condominiums on Monday. Those items needed immediately include: bed linens, dressers and bureaus, kitchen and dining room tables as well as chairs and kitchenware (including posts and pans). Anyone who has these items in good condition and would like to donate should call 774-348-4922 or visit the organization's website.

2. The Mayor's Charity Ball will take place on Saturday, May 5 to support the Mayor's Charity Relief Fund.Since 1960, this emergency fund has assisted local residents in need of a helping hand during times of emergency or duress, such as those . This ball is the only source of income for the fund. This year’s event will have a Kentucky Derby theme and will be held at the , said a release. The night will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. and will include a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, desserts, coffee, dancing and a cash bar. will be on hand to celebrate his first ball as mayor and will also recognize the recipient of this year’s Humanitarian Award. Tickets are $40 per person, or $400 for a table of ten. Tickets may be purchased  through the Mayor’s office at 508-460-3770 or by calling Linda Ossing at 508-243-5628 or Bob Kays at 508-981-2960.

4. Cub Scout Den 41 from the had their Blue and Gold Dinner Sunday night (April 22) to celebrate the boys who completed the work required for their ranks. Nineteen boys advanced to the next rank in Cub Scouts and 10 boys crossed over to Boys Scouts. Congratulations to all of you!

5. office is busy working with those who were devastated by Monday's fire, and is currently working toward getting them permanently situated. In the day-plus since the fire, there has been an outpouring of generous intentions from the Marlborough community, with many hoping to make donations to these families that are now in great need of assistance. The mayor's office has said they are working toward a plan that would facilitate community donations. We will post this information as soon as it is released.
