Additional police officers, free outdoor skating, both good and positive things for the City of Marlboro. Great use of Ward Park in the winter!!! Shows that our local public officials are considering everyone in making their decisions. Good job!

Yes, these are good things! We love the skating at Ward Park. I'm not sure our public officials are considering everyone in making their decisions though. Did you know that exactly where the skating rink is now is where the Mayor plans on constructing a 13,000 sq foot two story building!!!? Our Mayor, City Council and Recreation Commission are NOT considering children and families at all by taking away this heavily used public park area. Write the officials and tell them NO building on public use park land!! Let the kids enjoy this land now and into future generations.

LOVE to see everyone skating down at Ward Park! "Resident" is absolutely right - the exact location of the skating rink is where the Mayor wants to to put a 13,000 sq ft building and all the pavement that goes with such construction...and on Dec 17, the Recreation Commission gave that park land away so they could do it. What a shame. The families of Marlborough, particularly the kids of the Ward Park 'inner city' areas use that park daily because the houses in that neighborhood have little yard space. The skating rink is/was a perfect idea. Unfortunately is proves exactly why there should not be a building constructed on park land because that open space will not be available next year for an outdoor rink. LEARN MORE - DON'T BUILD ON WARD PARK! - ask you Ward Councilor about it!

Maybe the City Officials should make a field trip to Ward Park to read the inscription on the Entry Gate: "...dedicated to the better development of it's youth." Or maybe they could stay in the office and just read from Marlborough's "Open Space and Recreation Plan 2010 - 2015 on the web: "The challenge over the next 5 years will be to ensure that the city plans ahead and saves the parcels of land that are important to the character of the community." "(Ward Park) is an important park for the center city and is used heavily by the residents and sports groups" Why wont they follow their own advice!!!???

Leave Ward Park alone!!!! We use this park for soccer & baseball. In the summer the mushroom pool is heavily used as well. It has a nice playground too. Marlboro needs this park space!!!

The senior center slated to be built NEXT TO the sports fields should be beneficial to many. The actual proposal and plans have been made public for some time.

I concur. With all the buildings available in Marlborough why build on open space that is actively used? Find an unused lot and buy it or find an unused building and buy it. Or take over the building that is already there.

Hi Paul, it is slated to be built next to the football field. This is a piece of Public Park Land being used this Winter for free ice skating for all residents. This same field that they want to take away also has a baseball backstop and in the Spring residents play cricket there, moms and dads practice baseball skills with their kids, pickup softball games are played and residents exercise their dogs. In the Summer and Fall the AYF cheerleading use the area pretty much exclusively four or five days a week. >The actual proposal and plans have been made public for some time." < The proposal was made public only at the end of November, wasn't it? As I understand it, there was no professional evaluation by a committee as was afforded to other proposed locations. No input was solicited from residents, the Mayor simply announced this was the chosen site. Actual plans haven't been created yet. I agree with Damon, why build on open space that is actively used? Anyone who thinks Marlborough should not be developing Public Park Land please contact city officials!

I've lived most of my life in Marlboro and have faith that the City Officials will do the best for the youth and seniors. Moved here in 1969 and have seen the city progress so much. The country is just coming back from a full blown recession and yet the city has been able to maintain its services etc through these hard times. I believe the welfare of the citizens of the Wark Park area will not be forgotten by our City Fathers.

>and have faith that the City Officials will do the best for the youth and seniors.< I do hope the City Council will do the best for all residents. Right now the petition has a total of 450 online and hand written signatures! It is becoming clear the residents of Marlborough do not want park land taken away for municipal buildings! www.savewardpark.com
