$100,000 in Fire Damage at Dow Chemical Plant

A fire early Thursday morning has caused an estimated $100,000 in damage at a Dow Chemical plant on Forest Street in Marlborough.

It was an early morning fire that set off the sprinkler system at the Dow Chemical plant at 455 Forest Street combining with a fire to cause an estimated $100,000 in damage, according to fire officials.

The report came in at 7:45 a.m. for a faulty ductwork smoke detector and then the sprinkler system activated, according to a press release from the Marlborough Fire Department. The fire was the first of two put out by firefighters yesterday, with the second occuring at Strange Brew.

Firefighters confirmed the fire after arriving on the scene. Off duty and additional firefighters were called to the scene.

The fire was able to be put out and the sprinklers shut off. Firefighters checked the building for any lingering fire before clearing the scene.

The Department’s Fire Investigation Unit determined the cause to be accidental. Initial estimates place the damage at $100,000 but could go higher, according to officials.
