Endorses Cavaretta for State Senate


ACTON – Dean Cavaretta's campaign to become the next State Senator for the Middlesex and Worcester District received a coveted endorsement as the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) officially announced its support of his candidacy.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of MA NFIB," said Cavaretta. "One of the most important messages of my campaign is the need for state government to be smarter in support of the local business community, and in particular small businesses. Small, independent businesses form the engine of our economy, and we are relying on them to create jobs to get Americans back to work. As a member of the Massachusetts Senate, I will remember the important role these businesses play and I will do everything I can to support them."

The National Federation of Independent Business is the leading small business association representing small and independent businesses nationwide. Its mission is to promote and protect the right of its members to own, operate and grow their businesses. A non-profit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, NFIB represents the consensus views of its members in Washington and all 50 state capitals.

In 2010, NFIB published a legislative scorecard ranking state legislators on their support of the business community in Massachusetts.

The scorecard looked at 16 votes legislators took during the 2009-2010 session on issues like raising the sales tax and the gas tax. State Senator James Eldridge, Cavaretta's Democratic opponent, earned a score of just 23%, the second-lowest score given to any State Senator in Massachusetts.

"Unlike my opponent, I am running for State Senate to offer new policies that will put education and the economy first," said Cavaretta. "I will use my skills as a former teacher to support accountable and local education reform. And, I will show a renewed commitment to our small businesses which make up the backbone of our stalled economy."
