Let's Expedite MassDOT Projects

MassDOT needs reform if it is to handle one of the most complex areas of State Government, our State Transportation Network

Since 2009, the Commonwealth has made some progress, but now is not the time to slow down on the project delivery reforms the state has started.  We need a faster and more professional Human Resource Department, a firm commitment to new engineer recruitment that attracts the best and brightest, and a streamlined permitting process that assists all the stakeholders.

The "Reform before Revenue" mantra still has a lot of room for improvement, and what gets measured gets managed. We must push ahead on a bold scale for the taxpayers. Most Massachusetts Road, Transit and Bridge Projects still take too long to build and design, and are over their original budgets. This Governor and MassDOT Leadership must push for immediate changes in the communications culture that allowed for a complete lack of transparency and disclosure that led to Highway Division engineers failing to disclose immediately of the Big Dig Light Fixture's falling from their corroded ceilings. The buck stops with elected officials and managers who oversee one of the largest and most complex areas of state government: our State Transportation Network.
