Cavaretta for State Senate Calls on Opponent to Explain Vote Against "Melissa's Bill"

Dean Cavaretta urges Gov. Patrick to immediately sign the "3 Strikes Bill" which eliminates early release for repeat sex offenders and habitual, violent felons.

Dean Cavaretta, (R) 2012 Cndidate for Massachusetts State Senate in the Middlesex and Worcester District, held a Grand Opening celebration for his new Marlborough Office recently featuring 2010 State Auditor Candidate Mary Z. Connaughton.

During the event,Cavaretta discussed how his opponent was one of only seven State Senators to vote against “Melissa’s Bill." The hard fought bill passed the Senate 31-7 and institutes no parole for repeat sex offenders and certain violent felons.

The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature.

“This is not the first time Senator Eldridge has put the special interests in front of the interests of his constituents,” Cavaretta noted.  “From pushing a carbon tax on all small businesses to voting against EBT cash reform, to even voting to shrink the drug free zone around schools, Mr. Eldridge votes far out of the mainstream. I think he owes constituents a solid explanation why he would not vote to lock-up violent, repeat criminals and sex offenders.”

Cavaretta also explained how his own personal experience as a MA certified teacher and a small business owner makes him well suited to be an independent and effective State Senator who will always put the economy, education, and law-abiding citizens first.

“Many of our residents are working twice as hard, but making half as much. I understand what it is to struggle during this brutal, never-ending Recession,” Cavaretta said.  “That is why we need to create an environment for all small businesses to create more full-time jobs with benefits. My Economic Plan does this by lowering tax rates and ending giveaways like the one my opponent supported for the bankrupt Evergreen Solar in Marlborough and Devens.”
