The Story Behind the Music

Mr. C's Music has met Marlborough's musical needs for over 30 years.

Mr. C's Music has been in Marlborough for a very long time. However, the store's name is younger than the business. When it first opened in Milford in 1967, it was called The Milford Music Center. After a move to Franklin in 1973, the name became "The Impulse Shop" after owner, Jim Clement's, then-band "Impulse," in which Clement played the guitar and sang.

It was in 1978 that Marlborough welcomed "The Electric Lady" to the Pleasant Street Plaza. You guessed it. That was Mr. C's Music's third name.

Since 1980 though, has used its current nom de guerre Mr. C's Music.

"On Saturdays, a bunch of guys my dad's age have jam sessions in the store," said Clement's son and employee, Mike Clement.

The store offers private guitar, bass guitar, drum, piano and voice lessons as well as repair services for a variety of instruments and some guitar amplifiers. Although Mr. C's Music rents instruments for school bands and sells music books and supplies, guitars are Mr. C's Music's specialty. There are so many electric, bass and acoustic guitars displayed around the store that you easily lose count!

"I play electric guitar because it's way cooler [than acoustic]," said Patrick Moran, a regular customer and former private student at Mr. C's Music, "This store is awesome. The customer service is great and the staff are my friends."

"It gets busy after school when the kids start coming by for lessons," said the owner.

"It feels like a family atmosphere since there are regular customers that you get to know really well," commented Mike.
