Snow Facts: Roofs Collapse Across the State Under the Weight of Snow

With no end of winter in sight and more snow on the way today, it is paramount that homeowners get snow off their roofs.

1. A wintry mix is predicted to begin falling around noon today. Snow, sleet and rain will fall into the afternoon hours, and late tonight into Sunday morning 1-3 inches of snow is expected in Marlborough.

2. The expected rainfall will make the snow already on your roof very heavy, and roofs across the state have already begun to cave-in due to the added stress. The Home Depot here in Marlborough has roof rakes available for sale, as should .

3. If you hire a contractor to do the job of clearing the snow off your roof, the local chapter of the Better Business Bureau says to make sure you hire an insured contractor. Always make sure you sign an agreement before you have someone do extensive work to your property, and do not make decisions over the phone.
They also recommend getting several estimates: "Prices can vary widely and are usually based on the amount of work involved in clearing your property. Remember that the least expensive estimate is not always the best choice."
