Plan Meals and Family Entertainment for Less

Frugal Family is the place to find out about money saving ideas for your family. This week I found a meal deal at Stevie's Eatery and two fun and free family events in Sudbury.

1. Five meals for $5 each at : Each week, Stevie's Eatery will have 6 meal options. Order five meals and each meal will be $5. This is a wonderful thing to add to your weekly meal planning, especially for those days when your kids have back-to-back activities and you are literally not home to cook. The menu selections are on the Stevie's Eatery website and change each Friday.  Place your order two days in advance, as the meals are made fresh with healthy ingredients and are low in sodium. This is a great meal deal, and I am very excited that we have this in Marlborough. Stevie's Eatery is located at 222L East Main St.

2. There will be an 18th century battle re-enactment at the Wayside Inn this weekend that is free and open to the public. Bring your family to The Third Annual Battle of the Red Horse Tavern on Oct. 29. The event begins at noon and will take place on the fields surrounding the Wayside Inn. Your kids can meet colonial re-enactors, listen to fife and drum music, and witness an 18th century battle re-enactment. I remember attending many similar events as a child, and I think it’s important for all kids who live in our area to witness the sights and sounds of the American Revolution. Please look for the specially designated parking for the event. The Wayside Inn is located at 72 Wayside Inn Rd. in Sudbury.

3. There will be a free Halloween event at the Wolbach Farm in Sudbury on Saturday Oct. 29, 1-5: p.m. Bring your family to the “Pumpkin Patch at Wolbach Farm” and enjoy live music, games, crafts, seasonal food and beverages, a letterboxing activity and more. Wolbach Farm is located at 18 Wolbach Rd. in Sudbury.

Über-cheap laundry tip: Next time you are faced with stains on your kids white clothes, try this: Soak the clothes in cold water for about 25 minutes. I have a soak cycle on my washer, so I use this. No soap, no hot water, just cold water.   You will find that a lot of the stains go away, then you can wash them once with less detergent and pre-treater. I got this tip from our school nurse when my youngest child suffered from a colossal nose bleed. It also saved the day the time my oldest child began cross country practice with white socks and finished with black socks.
