Frugal snacking: Next time your kids come in from playing in the snow and demand a snack, try this neat idea I found on The Frugal Girls for making microwave popcorn. I altered the recipe a bit to suit my microwave and materials.  You need a paper lunch bag, popcorn, tape, and a microwave. Put 1/4 cup of popcorn in the paper lunch bag. Add salt if you like. Fold over the top of the bag and seal it closed with the tape. Put the bag into the microwave flat side down, set the microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds on high, and start. When you hear the popping slow to about a pop every 3 seconds or so, stop the microwave. You may need to adjust the timing for your microwave; our first batch was not perfect.  You'll have some great popcorn that tastes really good, is cheap to make, and stores really well because you use no oils. My son makes it in the morning, brings some of it to school for a snack, and puts the rest in a container for later. A bonus for mom: Not many calories in this popcorn, so if you sneak the kid's snacks when they are not looking, you can feel less guilt about the calorie part!

Refer to the merchants directly for offer terms and conditions. If you see a great deal, please let me know!
