Furnishing Options to Host Furniture Drop-off this Weekend

Furnishing Options, a local nonprofit, is giving locals an opportunity to donate items to the less fortunate this weekend.

, a program of the Marlborough-based , will facilitate a charity furniture drive in this Saturday, April 30, in conjunction with several area employers.

The Independent Real Estate Group, of Westborough, and Humboldt Storage and Moving will run the drive that will benefit economically challenged and less fortunate families in the MetroWest area, as well as those recovering from mental illness.

"We distribute to low income individuals and families in the Marlborough area," said director Diane Ring. "Many people that we serve are coming out of homeless shelters, and have nothing at all. This is a great opportunity to help people set up a household that otherwise would have no means to do so."

Furnishing Options has a goal of securing enough furniture for five entire rooms, enough to fill a moving container. That container will be located at the Green Thumb Garden Center at 187 Turnpike Rd (Rt. 9) from 8 a.m. to noon.

“This is the kind of fund raising that we get excited about!” said Elaine Quigley, owner of Independent Real Estate Group. “One of our goals this year was to concentrate on community fundraising and partnering with Furnishing Options seemed to be a natural fit. This is a great opportunity for real estate companies and agents in this area to assist their sellers as they get their homes ready for the Spring market. It is definitely a win/win situation when we can help our sellers empty their homes and put those items in the hands of community members that need it most.”
