AMSA Group in Marlborough Wins Community Service Awards

Local students are recognized for their contributions to the community, and charitable work.

RE/MAX of New England has announced the recipient of the first annual Steve Levine Community Service Award. The 2011 honor goes to the Advanced Math and Science Academy Leaders of Tomorrow group, for their continuing contributions to making the world a better place.

Founded in 2009 by a core group of AMSA Students lead by Hannah Parsons, Danielle Evans, Hailey Parsons, Alec Boyle and others, the group has grown to over two dozen members. Throughout the year, they have worked on many amazing projects, from the collection of over $4,000 for Haiti relief efforts, to their hands on work in soup kitchens, at Special Olympic events, and with Habitat for Humanity. In addition to their direct AMSA specific projects, they have worked in conjunction with the Shrewsbury Leaders of Tomorrow students to contribute to the annual 9/11 candle light vigil, the adopt a soldier project and many others incredible events.

The award will be presented on February 15th, at 3:30 p.m. at a special assembly at the AMSA facility in Marlboro. The students will be honored by Senator Michael Moore, RE/MAX of New England Regional Director Jay Hummer and Leaders of Tomorrow President Sam Levine. In addition, the school will receive a citation from the Massachusetts State Senate. The award was given by friends of Steve for his continued dedication and leadership in the community, in an attempt to honor others who also have committed to the community. Mr. Levine is a past recipient of the RE/MAX of New England Community Service Award., and the Massachusetts Association of Realtors Good Neighbor Award. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the MAR Charitable Foundation and the Massachusetts Children’s Fund.
