Learn to Cook Like the Pros

Ellie Deaner will travel to your kitchen to give a variety of fun and informative cooking classes.

Do you want to learn how to cook risotto like you ordered at the restaurant last night? Feeling overwhelmed with having too little time to cook a healthy meal? Confused on how to use all that cooking equipment you received as wedding presents?

Two words: Call Ellie. For more than 25 years, Ellie Deaner has taught cooking classes to those intimidated by the kitchen, people wanting to expand their culinary skills and for folks just wanting an enjoyable activity that strays from the norm.

Unlike other cooking classes where you end up in a sterile kitchen in some strange building, Deaner will come to you. Armed with recipes, ingredients and more tips than Martha Stewart, Deaner will swoop into your home to provide a cooking lesson in the comfort of your own kitchen. The couple or group host will also receive a complimentary copy of one of the two cookbooks Deaner has published.

“People feel that they’re locked into the same seven or eight meals, and going out to eat is unhealthy and takes a lot of money as well,” said Deaner. “What I do is teach them recipes that are quick, easy and healthy and still from scratch.”

But her lessons are not limited to the single cook or a couple. Many people have requested her cooking classes for bachelorette and girls-night-out parties and bridal showers. Giving cooking classes for birthday parties has also become very popular.

In addition to Deaner bringing the class to your kitchen, you get to choose what dishes are on the agenda or choose a theme, such as a French or Italian menu. Classes range from one and a half to two hours long and cover cooking four to five recipes.

“Many people want to learn recipes focused around chicken, soup and fish. I just gave a lesson to a person who wished to learn how to make Pad Thai, stuffed shells and several desserts. It really all depends on the interest of the group and if there are dietary issues or allergies,” Deaner said.

In addition to private and small group lessons, Deaner also does seminars (such as her one-hour seminar on healthy heart valentine recipes) and culinary team building cooking programs for corporations and organizations.
