5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 1

Here is a list of things going on in and around Marlborough today.

1. After a pleasantly cool evening, Wednesday should bring partly-sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s, along with the chance of thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

2. If you’ve always dreamed of becoming a nurse, don’t miss the last scheduled date for an entrance test to the Assabet Valley Practical Nursing program for the 2011-2012 class. The test will take place on Saturday, June 4, from 1 to 5 p.m., at . Registration must take place at least 48 hours prior to the date, and can be done online. Payment must also be submitted online. Applicants should visit  the website, click on LPN Program and then go to Quick links-Entrance Exam to register and sign up for an exam. There is a Study Guide available at the same site. There is a $50 nonrefundable fee for taking the exam.

3. Consumers who owe money or are behind on their bills may be legitimately contacted by debt collectors to pay off debts, but, says the Better Business Bureau here in Marlborough, phony debt collectors are lurking. In a recent release of the top complaints reported to the BBB, collection agencies ranked 5th in number of complaints received. With more than 15,000 complaints, consumers need to be aware of the best practices for when it comes to handling debt collectors. See the list here
