100 Years Ago: Upstanding, Well-Known French Citizen Dies Suddenly

Just about everyday Marlborough Patch will highlight an interesting story from the Marlborough Daily Enterprise published on that date 100 years ago.

Sept. 22, 1911: French Citizen Passes Away: Frank Gauvin Dies Suddenly at Lincoln Street Home

Frank Gauvin, one of the best known citizens of this city and the heaviest tax payer among the French speaking people, died suddenly on Thursday evening at his home, 479A Lincoln St., of heart disease.

The end was as unexpected as it was tragic. Mr. Gauvin, according to his wont, was working in his market, grocery and shoe store early in the evening. He appeared to be in his usual good health and closed the store at 9:30. After he had been sitting in a chair for a time he said, "I feel weak. Take me upstairs." Members of his family gently led him up the stairway to his apartment above and he sank into a chair.
