100 Years Ago: Marlborough Man Steals $46K off Battleship Georgia

June 23, 1911: Paymaster Morse's Clerk Captured: Detectives Have Been on Lee's Track Since He Escaped from Battleship Georgia Feb. 11 with $46,000. 

The arrest of Edward Valentine Lee, a paymaster's clerk on the battleship Georgia, took place in Buffalo Wednesday. He was a clerk of Paymaster John W. Morse of this city, a brother of Hon. W.B. Morse. 

The Man was arrested for taking $46,000 from the ship, while it was in Cuban waters Feb. 11. The loss of the money and the discovery of Lee's flight to Florida occurred the same day.
