May 23, 1911: Only One Case of Heat Prostration Reported

Monday was the hottest May 22 on record and all Marlboro in common with other places suffered from the intense heat. Drug stores, soda fountains and ice cream parlors were busy places and the proprietors had the most gleeful expressions seen for many a day.

Several places the thermometer showed a mark of 98 in the shade, while 94 and 96 were common occurrences. Among those showing 98 was the residence of Mrs. Cora Howe, Farm St.

A number of carpenters, painters and out of door workmen were obliged to quit work in the afternoon. The most pronounced effect of the heat was seen at the filter beds, where Patrick Dolan, 114 Howe St. was overcome by the weather. He was taken to his home in an automobile and late Monday night was pronounced better.
