100 Years Ago: Horse Abuse Found to be a Problem in Marlborough

Aug. 23, 1911: Warning to Horse Owners: B.J. Adams, Agent of S.P.C.A., Out After Those Who Use Animals Unfit to Work

Deputy Sheriff A.J. Adams, who is also the local agent of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, has inaugurated a crusade against horse owners who are using animals unfit to work. A number of horse owners have been notified of Deputy Sheriff Adams' intentions in the matter. Tuesday he took a horse from M. Gross, Hill St., and later delivered it to W.H. Nankervis, Berlin Road, with instruction to mercifully put it out of existence.
