100 Years Ago: Fireman Tighe Dies After 25 Years of Service

Just about everyday Marlborough Patch will highlight an interesting story from the Marlborough Daily Enterprise published on that date 100 years ago.

Sept. 23, 1911: Was Fireman Over 25 Years: Fred G. Tighe, Who Died Friday, Also Member of Painters' Union

Fred G. Tighe died at the Marlboro hotel at 10:30 Friday evening, after a long illness with a pulmonary ailment. He was 48 years old and his death was not unlooked for. He was the son of the late Isadore and Annie Tighe Courtemanche. his mother died when he was three weeks old and he went to live with his grandfather and grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tighe, Berlin Road. He lived at the Tighe house a greater part of his life and took the Tighe name. He was a veteran fireman and belonged to the old Mayflower Co. and later to Hose 2, which afterwards became the Combination Co. He left the fire department five years ago after service of a quarter of a century.
