Water Main Break In Marlborough Affects Traffic

At approximately 1:30 p.m. today DPW crews responded to the area Hayes Memorial Drive for a reported water main break.
"Until we isolate the break and do the digging and exposé the main we have no idea ... as to what the extent of the damage is," said Tom Temple the Marlborough DPW Assistant Director of Operations.
Crews must wait until Digsafe gets to the scene to authorize digging in the area. The DPW does not need to wait the usual three days due to emergency conditions.
"We cannot put a shovel into the ground until the lines are marked," said Temple.
He explained there is no telling how long it will take to isolate the break and repair it. Until that time, businesses along the road might experience loss of water as they attempt to isolate the break.
"It is probably deep out in that area," said Temple who explained once the break is isolated the time of repair will depend on the type of damage.
Traffic along Chestnut And Franklin Streets to Pleasant Street has also been reporter closed due to emergency road work.
