This Week in Social Media

A new column highlighting trends, thoughts, and news from Facebook and Twitter.

Here at Marlborough Patch, we take social media pretty seriously.

The platform is one way we look to interact with you, answer your questions and get to see what's on your mind. Social Media Saturday is a weekly feature where we highlight your questions and thoughts you've shared on FacebookTwitter and other media throughout the past week.

We'll also point you to some new and interesting pages you may not have known about before.

  • On Friday, one of our Facebook fans suggested that we do a story on historical homes in Marlborough. Sounds like a good idea to us; do you have any suggestions on homes that should be featured?

  • The Massachusetts State Police have been active in our area recently with sobriety checks, keeping the highways and other State roads safe from drunk drivers. A bunch of people recommended these stories on Facebook.

  • In a very sad turned of events, we reported that a young Marlborough woman passed away while at work in Southborough on Friday morning. This story was shared multiple times on both Twitter and Facebook.

  • Last Saturday we mentioned our story about the supposed end of times called "The End of the World is ... May 21?"  It has earned a second mention in the this column, because by the time that fateful hour had come and gone the story had been recommended on Facebook more than 100 times!
