Start Your New Year With a Bang and Save

Resolve to tune up your mind and body with these great gems that I found this week.

1. Open House at Earthsong Yoga on Jan. 7 from 9:30 to 2 p.m. New owners Gail and Steve Cannon will hold an open house to showcase the many talented teachers and the studio's new look. There will be a series of free mini classes starting at 10 a.m. that are approximately half an hour long. There will also be free chair-massage throughout the day. If you've thought about adding yoga to your routine, this is a great opportunity try a class and learn about the different styles of yoga.  Check the events page for the open house schedule as well as other upcoming events. Earthsong Yoga is located at 186 Main St.

2. Writing groups for all at the : Make a resolution to exercise your brain this new year. Jess Bacon, teen librarian at the Marlborough Public Library, has started some writing groups for tweens, teens, and adults. To sign up, email jbacon@cwmars.org or call 508-624-6900. You can also find out more information about these and other programs at the library website.

3.  coupon and loyalty club: Coupon for $5 off your table's purchase of $15 or more at TGI Fridays. Offer good until Jan. 31. Sign up for their "Give me more stripes" loyalty program to get a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert. Earn one "stripe" for every dollar that you spend, and redeem stripes for rewards. Frugal craft:  Now that you’ve rung in the new year and you've packed away all the decorations, what will you do with all those holiday cards? They’re beautiful and you know your family and friends put a lot of time, thought, and money into them. You can save them; I personally have a giant mailing envelope of photo cards that I started after I ran out of photo album space; or recycle them and make them into something new. The blogger at VolunteerSpot posted some great holiday card recycling ideas: Make ornaments, a photocard flip book, or gift tags for next year.  Thanks to April Welch, The Mental Clutter Expert, for posting these ideas.
