Matson Portrays Photographer on April 23

Works, thoughts of World War II photographer presented at Marlborough Library.

Please join the Friends of Marlborough Public Library on Wednesday, April 23 as they present Margaret Bourke-White, Courageous Photographer portrayed by Sally Matson.

This entertaining history lesson will focus on a woman who was not only ahead of her time but whose fearless and indomitable spirit is still an inspiration.  Ms. Bourke-White covered the Depression and WWII; she photographed Churchill, Stalin, Madame Ghiang and Gandhi. She risked life and limb in her travels as a photojournalist. She went on bombing missions, was torpedoed and even climbed on top of a gargoyle on the Chrysler Building all in the pursuit of the perfect shot. Her photographs made the cover of LIFE 19 times!

Matson brings this famous photographer to life in a riveting monologue chock full of fascinating details about this amazing woman through the use of letters from Eleanor Roosevelt, Amelia Earhart, and Ansel Adams.   There will also be copies of LIFE and FORTUNE magazines as well as many of Bourke-White’s photographs on display.

She has written and hosted programs for CT Cable Television and has acted and directed for 40 years. Her research at Syracuse University's Bird Library helped to bring Margaret Bourke-White to life.
