Freebies and Low Cost Family Fun

This week's Frugal Family has more low cost or free family activities. Enjoy some fun things to do without spending a lot of cash.

1. Get a free donut on National Donut Day at Dunkin' Donuts! On June 3 participating Dunkin' Donuts restaurants will offer guests a free donut of their choice with the purchase of a beverage (while supplies last, excluding bottled cooler beverages). According to Dunkin' Donuts, this special day was started in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. Partcipating Marlborough locations include: 54 Main Street, 312 Maple Street, 199 Lakeside Ave., and 330 Boston Post Road.

2. Join the Kidgets Club at the and attend a fun event on June 4. If you don’t know about the Kidgets club, it’s a great program at the mall that offers activities and mall discounts for your family.  Sign up for an annual membership for $5 per child, and your kids can take part in different activities throughout the year, such as the Mini Chef program on June 4 from noon to 2 p.m. You can also take advantage of Kidget club member-only discount coupons, such at $5 off a footwear purchase at Stride Rite, a free kids meal, value up to $4 at , and 20 percent off a purchase at . 3. Free Kids workshop at Home Depot on June 4th. You and your kids can make a valet organizer, which is a great Fathers day gift. The suggested age for these projects is 5 to 12, but since this is an adult-supervised activity, younger kids are definitely welcome. No need to sign up ahead of time, but it is first come first served. To participate please check in at the Home Depot Service Desk. Home Depot is located at 701 Boston Post Rd E.

4. Do you love to take your kids to museums but don’t love the high admission costs? Reserve a museum pass at the . These passes offer reduced or free admission to many area museums as well as some of the pricey Boston museums. All you need is a library card and your computer and you can reserve the passes in the comfort of your home. Or you can reserve the passes by calling 508-624-6900. Make sure to read the details of the museum pass program; you must pick up your pass and then return it at the correct time, or there will be a fine. 5. If you like ice cream, you don’t want to miss the The 29th Annual Jimmy Fund Scooperbowl at City Hall Plaza in Boston. This all-you-can-eat ice cream extravaganza will take place June 7 — 9 from noon to 8 p.m. Ticket costs are as follows: Adults (ages 10+) $8; children ages 3-9 $4; children under age 3 are free; groups of 15 will receive $1 off each ticket. A Scooper Pass is $15 and allows you to visit three separate times! For a fun Boston day trip, take the MBTA Green Line to Government Center and spend some time at the Scooper Bowl. Fares for each adult passenger costs $1.70; children 11 and under ride for free with a paying adult.
