Flash Flood Watch Extends Into Evening Commute

A flash flood warning will be in effect until 9 p.m. in some areas of the state.

The National Weather Service is urging caution as continued rains could spur flooding into the evening.

"Widespread rain with embedded heavier showers and thunderstorms will impact the region into tonight," stated the alert from the National Weather Service. "Flash flooding will be a distinct possibility as some of the showers and storms may produce one-hour rainfall amounts in excess of 1 inch."

Localized amounts could reach more than four inches, according to the service. The watch extends until 9 p.m. and covers portions of Northern Connecticut, Western and Central Massachusetts as well as Southern New Hampshire.

A hazardous weather outlook also extends over other areas of New England.
