50 Years of Service to City

Community service in the role of a constable is something Joe Duca has been doing for nearly 50 years.

Joe Duca has been serving the city in numerous capacities for years and Tuesday Marlborough Patch caught up with him while he was coordinating all the constables overseeing the U.S. Special Election.

"It's a great feeling," said Duca of serving the city by organizing the constables that work elections. "I grew up in the city and was born and raised here."

It is that civic pride that Duca, who worked in the fire department as assistant chief for 5 years and as an acting chief for over 10 months. He now works as the head election constable, managing those constables helping with security at the polls.

"If the warden can’t handle any problems, then the constable will step in and take over.”

He began the position while he was on the fire department.

“It wasn’t a requirement, but it was a protocol that we worked as a constable,” said Duca.

He continued working as a constable out of a feeling of civic duty, but also an appreciation for those he works with, he said.
