100 Years Ago: The Speaker of the House Speaks About Citizenship

Just about every day Marlborough Patch will highlight an interesting story from the Marlborough Daily Enterprise published on that date 100 years ago.

Nov. 15, 1911: Walker Give Fine Address: Speaker of House Talks on "Good Citizenship" Before Tuesday Club and Guests

Assembly hall was well filled Tuesday evening by members of the Tuesday club and their guests, the Colonial, Woman's, Semi Colon and Newman clubs. 

Shortly after 8 o'clock the president, Mrs. J.F.J. Otterson, introduced the speaker of the evening, Hon. Joseph Walker of Brookline, speaker of the house of representatives.

Mr. Walker spoke on "Citizenship" and said that at the present time there existed in the county of ours, a great deal of social and political unrest. The strength of corporations, growth of competition, and the increasing cost of living were among the things which tender to foster this feeling of uneasiness, he said.
